MONTGOMERY GI BILL -- SELECTED RESERVE (MGIB-SR)
(CHAPTER 1606)
You may be eligible for this program if you meet the following:
- You must be in a Guard or Reserve unit with a 6 year obligation.
- You must complete Initial Active Duty Training.
- You must maintain a Selective Reserve Status and remain in good status.
Note: If you no longer maintain selective reserve status, you may be eligible if you were a member of a reserve component who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 for a period of 90 days or more under a contingency operation.
- You must be degree seeking (have a declared major), or be an Open Preference student, not to exceed two semesters. (Note: For certificates, endorsements, and licensure programs, check with the VA for approval.)

BENEFITS
This program provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible applicants. Eligibility is determined by the Selected Reserve components. Veterans Affairs makes the payments for this program.
HOW TO APPLY
NOTE: The federal school code for Indiana State University is 001807.
- YOUR UNIT must establish your eligibility by completing and submitting DD Form 2384-1, Notice of Basic Eligibility, to the VA Regional Office.
- YOU must complete and submit the Federal Student Aid FAFSA, due by March 10th each year. For instructions (and online application) visit

- YOU must complete and submit VA Form 22-1990 (Application for VA Benefits). Instructions (and online application) are located on the Veterans Affairs web site.

- YOU must request that the University complete and submit VA Form 22-1999 (Enrollment Certification) and send all the forms to VA.
IMPORTANT
To continue receiving your VA payment, you must submit your verification with the VA each month using your VA Claim Number. This can be done on-line (go to www.gibill.va.gov and click WAVE). Or call 1-877-823-2378.
