Credit by Exam
The University's Credit by Examination Program enables
students to earn credit toward degrees if satisfactory
scores are earned on select examinations.
Credit may be awarded from the following programs:
¶ National Tests, including:
- College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)--
Subject and General Exams
- Advanced Placement (AP) Program
- SAT II--Subject Tests
¶ Departmental Exams
Note: When scheduling examinations, ISU students are responsible for designating
that test scores be reported to Indiana State University. Students who took CLEP
and/or AP exams prior to admission to Indiana State University should contact
the University Testing Office to ensure that their test scores have been reported
to Indiana State University.
Students must obtain their academic advisor's approval prior
to registering for any examination to ensure departmental standards are satisfied.
Students may earn a maximum of 31 semester hours of credit
through the Credit by Exam Program. This maximum is equivalent
to one academic year of classes.
Credit earned through the Credit by Exam Program may apply toward
graduation or degree requirements or elective hours within individual programs.
Students do not receive a grade for credit earned through the examinations.
No credit is awarded in a general examination area if the student
has completed two or more college-level courses in that general examination area.
No credit is awarded in a subject examination if the student has already
earned college-level credit in that subject area.
Students cannot receive duplicate credit. Therefore, it is important
for students to plan their academic schedule with an academic advisor.
