How do I register for classes?
Students can either
drop or add classes via the web at
http://myisu.indstate.edu/
To access the web a student must
know her/his Sycamore Login, password and advisement pin.

To access the web, a student
must enter her/his Sycamore Login and password.
Freshmen,
sophomores, and students in their first semester will
need to consult with their advisor to obtain an advising
PIN prior to making scheduling changes. Students who are
not in good academic standing will also need to obtain
an advising PIN.
The advising
PIN will need to be entered in addition to the Sycamore
Login and password.
Graduate students who are
in good academic standing or undergraduates that have 63
or more earned hours do not need advisement PINs to
register. Students who are not assigned an advisement
PIN will not be prompted for an advisement PIN during
the online process.
Undergraduate non-degree
students and graduate unclassified students will not be
assigned an advisement PIN, regardless of their GPA or
earned hours.
All students
are encouraged to consult with their advisor prior to
making changes to their class schedule.
How do I get into a closed
class?
The student must obtain a Scheduling
Form from the Office of Registration and Records by printing
it from our website or by picking one up from our office.
Both the advisor and instructor must sign for that class
in the appropriate space on the form. The form must
be returned to the Office of Registration and Records in
order to be processed.
What happens when a class is
cancelled?
If
a class is cancelled by a department, the student is
automatically dropped from the class and the drop/add
fee is waived. The student is sent a letter
indicating that class has been cancelled so that s/he
may register for another course.
How many hours are considered
full-time?
Undergraduate students are considered
full-time if they are currently enrolled in 12 or more credit
hours in a regular semester. Graduate students must
be enrolled in 9 or more credit hours to be considered full-time.
(In summer sessions, both undergraduate and graduate students
must be enrolled in 6 credit hours to be considered a full-time
student).

What is a consortium class?
A consortium class is a class
that a student is taking at a University other than his/her
home University, usually because the home University does
not offer the class. The student needs to fill out
the Cross-Registration form from their home Registrar’s
Office and acquire the necessary signatures in the order
marked on the form.
How do I audit a class?
Students may audit a class only
if it is a lecture and with the consent of the instructor
and department chairperson. Audit forms are available
in the Office of Registration and Records. They may
be submitted the first day of classes. The audit fee
is $5.00 per credit hour.
How do I get a printed schedule
of my classes?
You
may print your class schedule by accessing the
MyISU Portal and
clicking on Student Schedule by Day and Time. You
may then print a copy of your schedule.
How do I change my address
and/or phone number?
Students may change
their permanent or campus address and/or phone number by
contacting the Office of Registration and Records at (812)
237-2020.
They can also
change their address/ phone number via the web under
Personal Information at
http://myisu.indstate.edu/.
Students employed by the University must also update
their address/ phone number in the Payroll Office to insure
receiving W-2’s and paychecks.
How do I make my directory
information confidential?
Students who are
currently registered may declare information, such as addresses
and phone numbers, confidential by completing a Confidentiality
Form in the Office of Registration and Records.
How do I change my major/minor?
Students who are
currently enrolled should begin the process of changing
their major in the office of the academic dean of the school
in which the intended major is housed. Newly admitted
students should contact the Office of Admissions.
How do I change my school?
Change of School
forms are completed by the new school when a change of major
makes it necessary.
How do I get a copy of the
college catalog?
The current undergraduate
and graduate catalogs are accessible via the web at
http://catalog.indstate.edu/. Undergraduate
students receive a copy of the catalog at Sycamore
Advantage.
How do I know what is required
for my major?
The student should
consult with their advisor concerning requirements for their
major. They may also consult the undergraduate or graduate
catalog at
http://myisu.indstate.edu/
on the School Services tab while in the portal, or at
http://www.indstate.edu/academics/
to review requirements for their
major.
How do I know what class to
take to meet General Education requirements?
The student should
consult with their advisor each semester before enrolling
to determine what courses are still needed. The General
Education requirements are also listed on the web with the
Schedule of Classes under Registration Information.
How do I know which classes
count where?
The General Education
classes and what requirements they meet are listed via the
web with the Schedule of Classes under Registration Information.
The student should always discuss what classes are needed
with their advisor.
You can also obtain this
information by running a copy of your DARS report. The Degree
Audit Reporting System (or DARS) matches completed and registered
courses with the requirements for the degree program and
produces a DARS report. This report shows how the courses
taken apply to the degree requirements and what courses
need to be completed in the future.

What are the requirements for
the Dean’s List?
Full-time (12
hours) degree-seeking undergraduate students are listed
on the Dean’s List if their semester index is 3.75 or higher.
How do I get a Dean’s List
Letter?
The letter is issued by
the Academic Dean’s office from a list that is created in
the Office of Registration and Records.
What are graduation
honors?
Honors achievements of graduating
seniors are recognized by Indiana State University at commencement
and on diplomas. Honors are granted on the following basis:
Summa Cum Laude--a grade point average of 3.95 or higher;
Magna Cum Laude--grade point average of 3.80 through 3.94;
and Cum Laude--grade point average of 3.60 through 3.79.
Do my transfer courses count
for honors?
Yes.
What are the guidelines
for graduating with honors?
1. Transfer students must complete
62 semester hours of resident credit and have earned a 3.60
cumulative grade point average at Indiana State University
before honors consideration. All academic courses from all
accredited institutions are converted to a 4.00 scale and
incorporated in the honors grade point average when determining
honors.
2. In all considerations for honors,
graduation deadlines are to be observed. Once the commencement
announcement has been submitted for printing, there will
be no additions made for honors to be announced at commencement.
3. All grades, which are on a point
basis, are used in final honors designation. Grades such
as DP, DF, WP, N, IN, S, and U are not included in honors
calculation.
Honor candidates who will participate
in commencement exercises will be determined by the honors
cumulative indexes at the close of the preceding semester.
The honors cumulative index includes all academic courses
from all institutions.
How do I contest a grade?
The student should first
consult with the instructor for the class in question.
If the result is not satisfactory, he/she should consult
with the Dean of the school of their major.
How long will it take to post
a change of grade?
Once the change
of grade has been received in the Office of Registration
and Records with the proper signatures, it takes 2-3
working days to process.
How can I appeal my residency?
The student must fill out
an Application for Classification as a Resident student
in the Office of Registration and Records.
When will my degree show on
my transcript?
Degrees are generally posted
within 60 days of the close of the term of graduation.
How do I get a copy of my transcript?
You may
request your ISU official academic transcript by writing
to the Office of Registration and Records:

The request must include: student’s name or
any previous names at the time of attendance, student
ID number, date of birth, degrees awarded, dates
of attendance, current mailing address, telephone
number, address to which the transcript should be
sent, the number of transcripts needed, written
signature and indicate if the transcript needs to
be mailed in a signed and sealed envelope.
There is a $5.00 per copy fee for mailed transcripts.
There is a $15.00 per copy fee for faxed transcripts.
The fee must be in the form of a check or money
order made out to Indiana State University.
Credit cards (Visa or MasterCard) are also accepted.
Please include the card number, name on the credit
card and date of expiration. Please note that
encumbrances may prohibit processing of transcript
requests.
If
you are submitting the request in person, please
start the procedure at the Controller's Office and
then proceed to the Office of Registration and Records
once the transcript fee has been paid.
Can you fax my transcript?
Yes, there
is a $15.00 charge to fax a transcript as we also
follow up with an official transcript in the mail.
This service must be prepaid on either a Mastercard
or Visa credit card. The name on the credit
card, and credit card # and the expiration date
must be included. We must have your written
signature, student ID#, fax number and the mailing
address to which the transcript will be mailed.
Can someone pick up
my transcript for me?
Yes, if
it is the parent whom claims you as a dependent
for tax purposes and is willing to sign a statement
to that fact.
How may I just get
a copy of my grades, not my transcript?
Course
work may be viewed via the web by accessing the
MyISU Portal
and copies may be printed as desired.
Can I get a transcript
in a sealed envelope?
Yes. The transcript will be
prepared and ready for pick-up the day after the
request has been submitted to the Office of Registration
and Records.
How long will it take
for you to send out my transcript?
The transcript will be
mailed in two working days after the request has
been received in the Office of Registration and
Records.
When and how do I apply
for graduation?
A completed application for graduation is a requirement
for graduation. If you will complete degree
requirements within 1 calendar year and have
at least 78 hours of earned credit for a baccalaureate
degree or 32 hours of earned credit for an associate
degree, you should apply now. The application
for graduation is now online and we are encouraging
students to use this method of applying. For
undergraduate first-time applicants, students
can access the online application through the Indiana
State University website.

My hold has been cleared: Can I pick up my
diploma?
Once
the hold has been cleared in the Banner system,
the diploma will be ordered. The diplomas
are ordered from an outside vendor; therefore, it
will take approximately 2-3 weeks for the student
to receive his/her diploma.
When will diplomas
be mailed?
Diplomas usually
arrive via mail to the student within 4-8 weeks
after the close of the graduation term.
What is Academic Renewal?
How does it work?
The Academic Renewal
procedure begins in your school. Five or more
years must have passed between your last term of
enrollment at ISU and the current term of readmission.
How do I find out my
class rank?
You may find your class
rank by contacting the Office of Strategic Planning,
Institutional Research, and Effectiveness at
Ext. 2305.
How do I determine
my year in school?
It is determined
by the number of earned hours you have completed.
The following schedule
of hours earned is used to establish class standing:
0--31 freshman
32--62 sophomore
63--93 junior
94 and above--senior
I graduated some time
ago: Do you still have copies of my records?
Yes.
Why do you charge for
transcripts? Other schools don’t.
We do
not have transcript fees built into our fee structure
such as other schools do.
May I get a replacement
diploma?
Yes,
a written request is necessary and there is a fee
of $10.00 per replacement diploma. The request
needs to include your hand-written signature and
the following information:

number and expiration date on your request -- the
credit card will be charged with the $10 replacement
diploma fee and the order will be processed.
Please allow 2-3 weeks to receive your replacement
diploma through the mail. You can check the

How
do I certify my enrollment?
Beginning August 20, 2007, you can print
enrollment verification certificates, get
information on your student loans and more by
logging onto the MyISU portal and clicking on
the Enrollment Verification link under the
Registration and Records quick link on the
Student Tab. You can access these services
securely via the web 24/7. Click

How do I appeal a low
GPA?
You may seek to course repeat those
courses in which you received failing grades or
low passing grades to raise your GPA.
What do I have to do
if I am academically dismissed?
The student must be referred
to his/ her academic dean to request permission
to be allowed to attend.
