Telephone Services

Student Voicemail Request Form

Local Phone Service

A telephone and telephone line is provided with each residence hall room. There is no need to call for telephone service; the phone line will be active upon arrival. You may also connect your own phone.

Every student telephone line comes with private voice mail service for each student in the room. There is no need to bring an answering machine.

Call Waiting is available at no charge. To request call waiting, call 2910 and ask for this service to be programmed on your phone.

Phone Repair

If your telephone is not working properly, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 2910.

Long Distance

In order to make a long distance call from your residence hall room you will be required to charge the call to a credit/calling card. You may purchase calling cards at the machine located near Hulman Memorial Student Union’s information desk or from numerous local merchants.

Voice Mail

Students share the line in their room, but each student will have his or her own private voice mailbox. The telephone provided has a message waiting light that works with the voice mail service.

Setting-up Your Voice Mail for the First Time

When you access your voice mailbox for the first time, dial 8999 to activate the user tutorial. This tutorial will guide you through your first mailbox session, explain how to record a greeting and your name, and prompt you to change your temporary passcode. For step-by-step instructions on setting-up voice mail, refer to the Getting Started CD.

Recording Your Greeting

You will be asked to record one or more greetings that callers will hear when they call your mailbox. Be sure to record your message on your own mailbox, not the tree box that is shared between the voice mailboxes.

Changing Your Passcode

You will always be prompted for your passcode before accessing your mailbox. The first time you access your mailbox, you will use the temporary passcode assigned by the system administrator. During the tutorial, you will be prompted to change your passcode to a number with four to ten digits. Select a passcode that you can remember, but do not select something like “1234” that is easy for others to guess.

Trouble with Voice Mail

If you are experiencing trouble with your voice mail, contact the Voice Mail Help Desk at 3038 or visit
